My name is Peter S. Shenkin.

I suggest you use jewishgen.com and the DNA sites, like ancestry. If you have malersppaorts close to you, they should do full Y-dna testing at Family Tree DNA. I did. I am a Kohanr and analysis of the Udana indicates that I am very close to a branch of the Rappaport family. samadamsthedoghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01310722213367887375noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7220603392931447407.post-64219123232543173572023-02-15T11:36:55.615-08:002023-02-15T11:36:55.615-08:00I am the widow of Ronald Hillel Rappoport, son of ...I am the widow of Ronald Hillel Rappoport, son of Charles Rappoport, son of Simon Rappoport.
I would like to know how to link from those born in mid 1800s further back.
Or even forward from the information on Wikipedia.
I have the naturalisation papers for my late father in law and his Parents. My grandfather, Samuel Shenkin, immigrated to NY from Chesnik (Chashniki), now in Belarus, in 1909. His father, Mordechai Shenkin, was married to Dina Leah Rappaport, also from Chashniki. I am also aware that there was a Yiddish writer, Shloyme Zaynvl Rapoport, 1863-1920, who was also from Chashniki, and who was the right age to have been Dina Leah's brother or cousin. There is a writeup about him here: http://www.yivoencyclopedia.org/article.aspx/Rapoport_Shloyme_Zaynvl. Of course, we could still be unrelated.

If anyone has any information about the Chashniki branch of the Rappaport family, please let me know. I can be reached at shenkin AT gmail DOT com.

Thank you,
-P.samadamsthedoghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01310722213367887375noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7220603392931447407.post-61953539601007085632014-02-26T23:23:20.237-08:002014-02-26T23:23:20.237-08:00A few years ago a distant relative researched and ...A few years ago a distant relative researched and wrote an excellent family geneology. According to his research, our common ancestor, my father's great-grandfather, was Meir Laib Rappaport, born approximately March of 1830 in Roman, Romania, a tanner in Bacau, Romania. He emigrated to Safed, Palestine around 1906, and died in Palestine in about 1914. The author if this research, Howard Simkover, did a superb job of distributing the geneology to progeny of the patriarch, but I would like to know more about Meir Laib Rappaport's ancestry. Where did the Rappaports of Roman come from? How long were they there?Diana Shawnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7220603392931447407.post-68887923770361951572014-02-09T01:06:06.524-08:002014-02-09T01:06:06.524-08:00Hello Yehuda,

Her name was Libby (or Liba) Schiffman (or Schifnagl), and was born around 1880 in Yednitz, Bessarabia. Her parents were Chaya (maiden name unknown) and Yonkel Rappaport, whose dates were approximately 1836-1913. I imagine that they, too, were from the Yednitz area. The only thing I'd been told about my mother's grandparents was that my grandfather (don't know whether paternal or maternal) had property near or on the Black Sea and they had horses. Any information or suggestions you could give me would be much appreciated.Leanne J. My maternal grandmother's, Libby Schiffman (originally Schifnagl) maiden name was Rappaport and her parents were Chaya and Yonkel (approx. dates 1836-1913). They lived in what was Yedinitz, Bessarabia. I am interested in finding out if anyone has researched this family as I have not been able to find much, if anything, about them on other sites. Any ideas you may have will be much appreciated.Leanne Joseph Parksnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7220603392931447407.post-28729541468687665342011-01-31T11:59:59.091-08:002011-01-31T11:59:59.091-08:00Dear Yehuda,
